This sauce is a perfect copycat to several popular chain restaurants' versions. It can be used for dipping chicken, fries, pickles - practically anything. The kids absolutely love it, and it is gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and moderate-FODMAP.

Lauren loves the popular commercial signature dipping sauce, but it contains several "illegal" ingredients, as we usually say. So, I made a version that tastes as close to the real thing yet has ingredients that won't cause her digestive distress. It is super-simple to make, and you can alter the ingredient ratios depending on whether you want it sweeter, more savory, spicier, etc. I usually make a large batch at the start of the week, then I'll put portions into small dipping cups so that she can take it to school for lunch. The boys really love it as well, and they often get it confused with the commercial brands. If I could only package it in commercial packaging and sell it...!

Signature Dipping Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise - to keep it vegan, we like Follow Your Heart vegenaise; we also love Duke's regular mayo for its simple ingredients.

  • 2 Tbsp BBQ sauce - we love Stubbs original BBQ sauce because it doesn't contain any of the eight major allergens; it does contain molasses which is a high-FODMAP, but only a small quantity is added to the recipe.

  • 2 Tbsp corn syrup or honey - if you use honey, just know that it is a high-FODMAP

  • 2 tsp. mustard - we use Heinz 100% natural mustard, again for the simple ingredients

  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper

Directions:

  • Add all ingredients into a small mixing bowl.

  • Mix well until combined.

  • Chill and serve.
